Abstract

A case of traumatic diaphragmatic hernia diagnosed and treated a month after injury is reported.
The patient, 25 year old male, received contusion on left lower chest, pubic region and lower back, and complained of left lower chest pain, lower back pain and pain of pubic region.
A month later, he began to have dyspnea, epigastric discomfort and occasional cough with sputum.
He underwent thoracotomy through left 7th intercostal space on April 11th, .1972 and a diaphragmatic defect of about 10cm in length was closed with two layers of interrupted silk sutures with a good result.
Various stages for clinical discovery of the disease and pertinent chest X-ray as well as physical findings for helping to make the diagnosis were briefly discussed together with a limitted review of the medical literatures on the subject.
